Default Engine Termp Sensor Location?

Anyone know if there are any other engine temp sensors, other than the one in the coolant line? I am getting the blue light coming back on after it goes out.

It is a new "green top" sensor, don't know how old it is though. Figured I would check the other sensors first... this one is now ~$30 at the stealership... was $9 last year.

As a follow up, it has been very cold when starting my 1.8T in the morning 25-30 deg. F. This causes the secondary air pump to come on to warm up the engine. When the blue light goes out, it goes out for good, at least at these cold temps.

So, I dunno, either the air pump/coolant pump coming on in very cold conditions helps bring the engine temp up to the correct temperature and the temp sensor *IS* working. OR the sensor is failing in normal hot conditions, and when it is too cold outside it is working.

I also considered the thermostat going as well, but the interior heater controls function fine.

Hmmm, I dunno, guess I should get a VAG-COM cable and log the readings from the temp sensor. This one is pretty strange, anyone else, any ideas?

There are two coolant sensors, one near the radiator and one in the coolant flange, down by the block. The green one should have been the one in the coolant flange.

Yeah, got the green one near the block.

Anyone got a pic of the one near the radiator? (Yeah, I am getting a service manual for x-mas. ).

As an update for those searching for threads to their problem...

Went to stealership and paid $30+ for coolant temp sensor (top one). Problem fixed. The old one was flashing blue towards the end and then after about 30 minutes of driving I would get solid blue and the oil pressure light would flash! Also got, beeping from the instrument cluster.

Apparently on the 1.8T software/ECU/cluster a faulty coolant sensor can also trigger the red oil light (one other ORG member posted this).

I was waiting for a CEL, but the beeping was freaking me out... replaced sensor and no more errors.
