Default Tire recommendations for Turbo S

Yikes I just checked on line and the cheapest I could find the stock tires (Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 All Season Tires- Tire Size: 235/45-17) was $200 dollars a piece. Does anyone have any recomendations for tires for a Turbo S. Thanks!

Not sure where you are located, but check www.discounttire.com or www.tirerack.com for tires. Unless you have 18's or above, you should be able to get some pretty nice tires for $125 a piece. There are some that are more and some that less.

Then again, I live in MS. I don't know if you have to deal with snow or ice or lots of rain or what. Fill in your profile in the 'user cp' (control panel). And is it your everyday car, your fun car, your slow car?

well, what are you looking for your tires to do? All season, all season high performance, ultra-high performance aka. summer tires?

I run Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's on my car in 225-45-17 in the summer and they are awesome under all conditions. Dry, wet, heavy rain and even track duty. Expensive, but it is one of the top rated ultra-hith performance tires...period.

If you're just looking for a stock replacement, then there are tons of choices on tirerack.com. Any tire in a 17" diameter will be expensive, but that's the price you pay. Also, I have found that the OEM-style tires are more expensive than the offerings in the high-performance all-season category. The Fuzion HRi is a mere $88 each and have good reviews. Any time you step up in performance you step down in wear and winter traction.

Shop wisely, tires are the most important thing on your car next to brakes, and brakes do their job best when paired with good tires.

I have included my car and location. 03 Turbo S, Chicago. I like the feel of the car. So thats why wanted to go with the stock tires, untill I looked at the price. Thanks for the heads up on Tire Rack they are $188 per tire. better price than I had found before. So I might buy the Michelin. I gues I just got sticker shock when I saw them for 200 a piece. If anyone has any recomendations on good performance tires keeping in mind that I have to deal with snow durring the winter let me know. My price range is 188 and lower per tire. How much are those oodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 NYBugman? How are they performing in the cold weather? Thanks!

Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S. Priced $130s each. (do not get the Pirelli "Four Seasons")

Excellent all-saeson tire--highly rated. Available from edgeracing.com

I found them to be excellent in snow the first year I had them--they have excellent grip in dry and wet and it looks like they'll wear almost as good as the OE Michelins.

Great summer oriented tire and does well in the rain BUT not so good in the snow. They do get loud towards the end of their life.

The Ecsta ASX is a decent all around tire and a real bargain for the price. Not a great corner tire but a decent overall performer.

Bottom line is get a tire that best suits your needs. Sounds like you want an all season tire and the Pirelli Nero MS is a great tire for that. I would suggest getting a second set of wheels and dedicate a set to snow tires and a set to summer performance.

Good luck

Rob

The Eagle F1's are $150 per tire in 225-45-17 from tirerack.com. When I bought them new 2 years ago they were brand-new on the market and I bought them for over $200 per tire.

However, the Goodyear Eagle F1's are tires that are not for the winter. Once the temps drop past 42-45, their grip diminishes and they get a lot stiffer. I run these tires from the end of March to the end of November. For the winter I run Nokian RSi's on OEM Long Beach wheels in 225-45-17, which are a specialized winter tire with good road manners.

In the conditions they are intended for they are simply amazing. As I mentioned before, they hold up well on the track. They are not noisy on the street, they have wet grip that still astonishes me, and in the dry they simply stick like flypaper. Hell, my Dad and I run a set on our race-prepped 911SC. Had that car in triple digits (120+) in the heavy rain at Watkin's Glen on the F1's and they did great. The car would be faster in the dry on a full race tire, but for now the Eagle F1 is a good tire that can do it all.

Enough about them, though. You're looking for an all-season. The Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S is pretty good. I haven't heard bad about them.

I put a set of Continental Pro Conti on mine...they are $116 each at tire rack. I have driven them in all conditions and they are have handled everything including some spirited driving...I have been pleasantly suprised! These are prices for a Turbo S.

I just put Bridgestone Potenza G 009 on my car and so far I like them. I've only driven in snow a few times with them so far (thank God!) and they performed MUCH bettr than the OEM Michellins that they replaced. I was told that there really is not a GREAT all season tire for this tire size on a NB,(in regards to snow and ice) but that these Bridgestones would be the best I could get.

I really like my Pilot Sports, grip like mad wet or dry, much better than the OEM's, I wanted the GoodYears but they were not available from TireRack at the time, I hear good things about them also. The Kuhmo's are also an excellent choice and I know a number of GTI owners that use them for daily and track tires. You may need an all season in your location, unless you have a set of winter tires on another set of wheels.

The Summer tires have a higher speed rating and are usually a softer compound also, I wear mine out in front every 15 - 20K Miles. Glad to hear the OEM's have come down in price, they were near $230 when I checked them 2 years ago.

Default P Zero Nero M&S

I've been using the P Zero Nero M&S year round on my 2001 Audi S4 for several years now. They do everything fairly well and get high marks across the board on Tire Rack's user rating system. I'm a repeat buyer because they've been that good.

I can't tell you how they'd be on the Turbo S because I've only put 3,700 miles on it since I bought it 1.5 months ago. They're performance tires, so if you want economical tires that go 40,000+ miles, look elsewhere. Since you own a Turbo S, you're probably not interested in mundane tires.

I just wanted to give a for the Generals. Like noR, where we live, snow is not a consideration, but these have handled everything else with aplomb.

Click here & check out post #10 for a pic of the UHPs on our Bug and a little commentary on how I decided on them.

Wow ... didn't know General had a decent sport tire ... been recommending people stay away from them because of the rubber ski's that come OEM on most of the GM small trucks, like the Colorado.

Yep, they're gettin' better. I've got a friend on General UHP's and I'm about to replace my F1s w/them.

Definately a step down; but my wallet will thank me. Should last much longer, and will cost a fraction of the amt. Just won't grip like these F1's.
