Default Buying a '01 Turbo

I am looking at a 2001 one owner GLS Turbo with 100k. All the service records are there and the car runs great. Everything works electrically and the car has good paint and a clean CARFAX. I am looking to sell my 98 Beetle GLS,62k and a 5 speed and all service has been performed per VW recommendations within the last 2 mos-oil,air and fuel filter, radiator and brake flush.. When I drove the Turbo I could not believe the difference in power vs. my car. I do very little driving(4k year) as I use the car mostly on weekends as my toy. The guy wants 8k for the Turbo and it is yellow the same color as my car. Any advice if this is a good deal? Thanks.

I think that is a good deal (based on NADA value). Just be certain that he has done a timing belt & water pump change.

I would keep looking if it doesn't have the AWV engine in it ... 01 was the changeup year for the engine. And for sure don't get it if the T-belt, tensioner and water pump have not been changed in the last 20,000 miles.

If the T-Belt,tensioner and water pump have not been changed in that interval why couldn't you change it now? Is there something that could have occurred in the last 20k to cause a problem? Thanks.

Although the recommended interval for the change is 105k, there are lots of cases of breakage after 70K Therefore, 70K is the change interval amogst those "in the know".

Mine held on till 148k. Stupid I know but now it's changed and all the damage has been fixed. If they have not been done, I strongly suggest you do it upon delivery. You wouldn't want to go thru what I did. I got the kit from metalnerd and the hubby did all the work except the valves.

Well ... for the TBelt ... make sure the price reflects if it hasn't been done yet ... at the dealer it is about a $1400 job.

we have a 2k1 Turbo GLX 5 speed with the AWV engine which has around 52k miles on it. only have had to replace daylight running lightbulb on driver's side, rear brakes, and the battery thus far. we both love the car!!!! rather have the manual transmission, plus love it when the turbo kicks in, kinda scary when you are the passenger though.
