Default I could use some FMIC Install Advice/ help

Well, long story short, I'm sick of heatsoak and went on the lookout for an inexpensive core... What I found is this...

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeropost?...how&id=3389473

Met up with the seller and picked it up last saturday.

Now I'm faced with how to route the piping and mount the core to the car... I've searched the vortex and can't really find any useful info.

Basically I would just like to see pitures of some of your setups, I would preferably like to keep my foglights, and I think that it can be done with the offset inlet and outlet holes.

I have 2 ideas;
1. Source a 225 TT intake manifold, relocate battery to trunk, and go for the shortest distance possible

2. do a kinetic motorsport style install with the charge pipe coming off the turbo routed around the driver side of the block. most likely will be relocating the battery on this one too. But my question is with this... will the charge pipe interfere with the rain tray? I think it will and dont want to invest the money in a part that wont work in our cars...

So basically, any input and advise would be greatly appreciated!

I'm afraid the best way to do this is to just dive in. Take your front clip off and start mocking things up. You're going to have to trim/cut your bumper reinforcement (rebar) for sure, and you may have to modify other things as well. There is just no easy way to do it.

As far as that piping kit, you must have beads rolled on all the ends, or you will blow a coupler off.

Finally, watch your coolant temps. FMIC's can cause an increase in coolant temp on the New Beetle because of the small front grille. I would assume a person could locate a lower temp fan switch to put in, perhaps from a VR6.

It will work in the end, but it's going to be a lot of time and work. That's the main reason I have an upgraded SMIC

thanks! I have installed a kinetic kit on a gti before, but that was a kit... still took a really long time. rolled edges on the pipes shouldnt be a problem, i've got access to a bead roller

I want to go fmic over smic mainly because of the look, it is far from subtle, which is what my car is right now. the lower temp fan switch is a good idea, i will surely look into that. this stuff should be in before h20 so there will be pics soon, and I found a few fair priced universal pipe kits on ebay so i'll be ordering one tonight, along with the map sensor bung.

I think that I will be shooting for doing a gti-like install, and not go for the tt225 intake manifold. the battery still may go into the trunk because I think that the power steering reservoir is in the way...

I am going to be going FMIC while I am rebuilding my motor since I will have the time. Here is what I am starting with...

.... and here is an idea of how I want to modify it since I do not want to relocate my battery or fight anything in that area just to route the piping. A buddy of mine is going to try and hook me up with some misc. Samco hoses so I can use the factory piping locations.

I think you need a special core to do this. If you push air into the core from one side and let it exit on the same side (assuming you use a standard core), the air will not be cooled because its flowing the fastest way out and not through the core.
The air should enter the core from the bottom left, flow to the right on the lower side, then turn around 180° and back from right to left on the upper side and exit. There are some cores with this design on ther market.

I already thought of that and would add a bar to separate the inlet and outlet and also modify the other side to have the air do the 180. It is doable and I have talked to a shop that does a lot of intercooler work. I got my FMIC for $100 and it will cost me about $60-80 to have it modified.
