Default I need a new MAF sensor, my engine code is APG

From everything i have read there are 3 engine codes for the 1.8 engine but mine is not one of them.

I found a list of engine codes for VW's and it looks like the engine belongs in a golf.

My sticker in the trunk says APG.

Can anyone tell me

1) what MAF sensor to get

and

2) should i be concerned that i have the wrong engine in my car?

Have you tried removing your MAF sensor and cleaning it in a bag of 99% alcohol? This works a lot of the time, and can save you quite a few $.

I got a can of MAF sensor cleaner. I sprayed the sensor today and from what I read it could take a few days for the CEL to clear.

I also lost one of the screws for the darn thing in the process so I am going to hope the dealer carries them since neither the hardware or car parts store had a close replacement.

So if the cleaning doesnt clear teh CEL then I will need to get a new sensor which brings me to my original question regarding my engine code being odd.

Thanks for your reply.

I did a little research and I found that the APG engine codes is for a 1.8L 20V NON-TURBO engine used in Europe and possibly Japan.

You probably read something wrong, because that engine was never available in the US.

Take your engine cover off and look for a stamping with the 3-letter code in it.

APH is for 99-2001.5 and AWV for everything after.

In any case, a new Bosch MAF from ECS Tuning is a little over $100. A new OEM VW/Audi Bosch is $300. A VW/Audi reman is $170.
