Default 2001 1.8T fuel filter question

hi all, i have a 2001 1.8turbo Jetta. i know i know its not a NB but i did own a NB TDI. In fact its that time of year (holiday season) for me to repost my NB pics to remind everyone not to drink and drive.
Anywho, i had the jetta up on the lift with new OEM filter in hand, and cant figure out how to get the old one off without breaking something. it looks like there are clips but i cant figure it out. please help.

I had the same problem. All you have to do is push on the flat side of the colored clip to release it. Don't pry, pick or pull on anything. Just push in on the flat side of the colored clip looking thing.

hope this helps.

Also push it toward the filter as if you are trying to put it on. This helps make it easier to fully disengage the clips.

the clamp that holds the filter to the car will likely need to be replaced. Mine was rusted through and broke when I tried to take it off, so have a spare ready. I used some large zip ties instead-works fine. Be prepared for fuel to spill out everywhere-ie put out your cigarette before removing.
