Talking Engine coolant temp sensor

Does anybody have any help threads on replacing the engine coolant temp sensor? Thanks in advance!

its the same process for the Beetle, I have done it myself many times.. a 1.8T is a 1.8T

Real easy. On the 2.0, at least. Just take the cap off the reservoir to release the back pressure. Then take the old one out (keep a rag handy for spilled coolant), make sure the old o-ring came out, then pop the new one in and make sure it pops in there and is secure. I'm not certain of the location of the sensor on the 1.8ts, but on the 2.0 it is on the right side of the engine on the coolant line going to the radiator.

When you go to buy the sensor, make sure you have your VIN with you. The sensor for my car is NOT the green one mentioned here often but rather the squared blue one. The harness coupler changed in mid '99 to the green one pictured. Cost was the same...
