Default temp sensor hose adaptor

When I installed my gauges last year I never installed the adapter for the temp sensor because just before the gauge purchase from 42DD I did the timing belt/water pump replacement. Since the coolant was new i figured i'd give it a year b4 I replaced it. Now i was wondering if the upper hose could be removed on a cold engine without having to drain the whole cooling system? Anyone done this recently? Should I just follow 44dd's instructions and drain then install adapter?
thanks

No need to drain the system.
When I installed mine I just disconnected the top hose from the radiator, cut the necessary amount off, slipped the adapter on and reconnected to the radiator.
On a cold engine, most of the coolant is in the radiator anyway and there is very little left in the top hose.
You'll have a little run out but you certainly don't need to drain the whole system.

Good luck with install!
