It can be removed. It will throw codes, but people get around that with resistors. Why do you want to remove it? It's not stealing power and it is part of the emissions equipment for the car, so removal of it on a street vehicle would probably be illegal.

yeah we have no emmission laws though. and its throwing a code now. so either delete it or replace it. its really loud. i have heard of fixes for them but cant find any for our cars. everyone says its a bolt that holds them together and our beetles dont have any bolts.

You have to drill out the rivets and put bolts in to hold it closed. Mine's noisy too but repairs will wait till spring. here's a link.

IIRC youll still get an improper flow code, even with resistors. i know unitronic stage 1+, and i think revo stage 2, will both just ignore the flow and not give you a code.

rip it out. while you're at it, rip some other crap out too. it will open up your engine bay immensely.

Here's how.

i would love to remove all this stuff but i refuse to allow my CEL to be on all the time. i like to know when it comes on and why. if i could get rid of this junk and not throw those 2 codes i would. so until someone finds out how to get around these then ill just deal with them.

well, if you add the resistors to the wiring the only CEL you will throw is the O2 sensor once in a while. I have read that some chip programs will take care of that one as well.

no you will throw improper flow from both the secondary air injection and the evap. and no chips that i can find take care of them. i checked. so until i find one that does i dont want a permanant CEL.

I removed all N112/N249/secondary airp... for engine bay pics look at my sig.
My chip tuner here in germany could disable all cels. I think if you provide him your ecu no. he can make you an individual ecu and send it to the us. so there would be no downtime. he could also use your ecu and reprogram it but that would take some time for shipping.

apparently it only pops up occasionally. Besides, I would much rather deal with a little yellow light on the cluster than a bunch of crap on my engine I don't need any day.

I'll second that!
I'll get all my crap off soon enough. Plan to do the full monty... NH has emissions but only through the tailpipe and it's a loose test. With a VAG-COM I could dial down the fuel anyway, right?
