ok, looking for an intake. im about to make a simulated CAI using the stock shaved airbox, a K&N, and some 3.5 inch PVC. but, i want to get another intake later on iin life. does anyone have any dyno numbers from diferent intakes? i dont want to loose any low-end power, id actually like to gain some. i dont want to get hear-say answeres, just cold hard facts.

you gain colder intake temps(by a small ammount) and better throttle response, im wondering what intake performs the best.

I just installed an RSD dry filter CAI from www.tmtuning.com .
You can't really see anything on a dyno, cuz u'd need a specialized forced air source to show any results. I coincidentally met the local rep for tmtuning one day at the shop I use, they used such a system to develop it in Germany, it was originally created for the Audi TT: "Turbo engines stock will see a minimum 8 to 10 horsepower increase." It's amazing, the sound is totally whack, like a loud, ghostly, metallic cough, u can even hear it clearly if u just blip the throttle, pedal response at all speeds is improved, there's no loss at the lower end, if anything it pulls away faster, but u really feel the 'oomph' at higher speeds. ![]()

RSD mod. MaxxFlow kit, small, 60-75 mm neck dia., US $ 129.00/set order no.: RSD-1010 Important! This CAI is not recommended for areas with dusty conditions. This a dry foam element CAI, dusty condition areas should use an oiled filter. I had mine painted, painting with a clear coat really helps reflect heat. BTW, the walls are too thin to powdercoat without jeopardizing the structural integrity of the aluminum. U'll need to get 5' of aircraft quality tubing and I bought new clamps, the ones they give you are lousy quality. |

I was reading something on the 'tex the other day about how intakes with velocity stacks are the best way to go if the filter is sitting in the engine bay (i.e. not a true CAI). I do know that K&N makes a cone filter with a 3" outlet and a volocity stack built into the inside.
That being said the consensus on the 'tex also seems to be that a stock turbo won't benefit much over and above the stock airbox with a K&N filter. |

well in theory, any inprovment in the intake will show gains. it may not be in peak power but there will be gains. think about it, can you run a mile with a straw as your breathing hole? if you can kudos to you, you could also probobly suck a golf ball through a garden hose. but the more air the engine has available the more efficent it CAN be. an engine is just a big pump. if you give your lawnmower more air even it will make more power.

between the options of a new intake, a new exhaust, and chipping, it seems like the new intake is last on the list in terms of potential benefit, largely because you'll see more of a power gain if the other two are already there. see the 1.8T stock turbo tuning guide for a little more info |
