Unhappy P0310 and P0400 codes Help.........

The CEL popped on this morning P0310 Misfire code. The engine was sputtering a little nothing to major. So I picked up some plugs changed them out, and cleared the code. Went for a test run and CEL popped a P0400 secondary air injection malfunction.

I'm kind of at a loss here. I searched through the threads couldn't really find anything pointing to the P0400 code. Anybody have any clues?

I was thinking maybe one of the coils are shot. I don't see how that would trip the air injection code.

Input is warmly and gladly accepted.

you're not really giving enough info for anyone to give you a response. can you post more of your vag-com report?

If I had a vag com I would post the results. All I have is a cheesy little scanner from auto zone.

Before it popped the CEL the first time it would stumble upon start up first thing in the moring when it was cold. After that it was fine. No stumble at all and no noticed loss of power.

P0400 looks like an EGR code to me. What year is your car? Possible that your egr valve is stuck open and causing it to run badly. the P0310 is a wierd code. Dont remember seeing that one ever before. It means missfire on cyl #10 on dodge and fords with 10 cyl engines. Your generic scan tool might be lying to you.

EGR...... Hmmmmmm That thought has come across my mind. Wonder if that thing is easy to get to, and what the damage would be on a new one.

Oh yeah Wasabi is a 01 1.8 with 55,000 on her.

#10 cyl.! Oh I wish I had 10 cylinders in my Buggy!

if you're getting an SAI code on cold mornings it means either your SAI pump is going out or you have a leak in one of the tubes. it's not a performance issue, just emissions, and one solution is to remove it altogether. If it is malfunctioning the other code could be an O2 sensor.

I know what you mean about the code reader. I wish I had the dough to throw down for a lappy and vag com software. Or even someone in this neck of the woods that has one.

I'll dig through the bentley and see if I can come up with anything there. I thought I saw an egr or something resembling one on the left side of the head (in between the head and airbox)? Ah but I could be wrong. I just hope it's not something that will affect the pocketbook to much. Isn't the EGR also refered to as the "kombi valve" also?

combi valve is for secondary air injection (SAI) Totally different than an egr system. You might be seeing the SAI valve thats bolted to the head toward the back. Good Luck again

I got that secondary air code last week - turned out to be one of the hoses that feed into it - $2.50 to fix. You might want to replace the hoses first & see if that get's it.
