Default bad water pump! need a timing belt kit! Who has a quality kit? Any recommendations?

Hey, my 2002 New Beetle Turbo S with AWP has a trashed water pump; at only 42K! The warranty is finally up; so now I am wrenching on my own car, finally! Now the question is who should I buy a complete timing belt kit from? My main issue for me is the quality of the parts; I want to do this once and do it right; with parts that are going to last. I prefer to buy all German made parts with the obvious addition of a metal impeller water pump; this tendency for "Made in Germany" maybe a carry over from my aircooled days. Here are a couple of vendors I've found. Anyone have experence with any of these guys and who do you recommend? ECS TUNING seems to be substituting Japanese parts for German and DIESELGEEK has all German parts and they really stand out with a truly complete kit with every possible thing you would need (including some water pump removal tools, nice!). Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

The waterpump bearing on mine went out at 70,000 miles. Replaced everything and now I'm at 140,000 and the bad bearing sound is back.

Just pick a kit with a metal impeller for the water pump. Nothing else you can really do. Kits are the cheaper route in general. Good luck.

If you're going in there then this would be the time to replace your T-Belt and all tentioners/rollers etc. if you haven't already because the job is very time consuming, I would get all factory genuine VW parts except for the water pump, get a metal impeller water pump.

You can get everything from World Impex for a lower cost than from the dealer but I would go to the dealer and get parts list of everything with part numbers so that you can verify what is required when you place your order, should you decide to go this route.

I second that. Get all the parts you will need to replace in the front of the motor now, so if you need anything while you are in there, all the parts will be in hand.

ECS Tuning:

I've done this with my Audi, and the parts were OEM; don't know where you got your Japanese part story from.

as per ECS parts list:
OE tensioner Roller made by NTN-Japan
OE tensioner assembly made by NTN-Japan
NTN apparently is a Japanese bearing/parts company; having never bought parts from the dealer, maybe they make VW's OEM parts? http://www.ntnamerica.com/ I've always bought German parts for my aircooled VWs in the past; maybe with global distribution the way it is, OEM parts are not necessarily made in Germany at this point. On closer inspection of other kits, like dieselgeek.com; everyone looks like they are selling the same brand OEM parts such as the NTN tensioners but the metal impeller water pumps are made in Germany.

The ECS and MJM kits seem to be equivalent. I used the MJM kit when I did my timing belt. just do everything now, especially the hydraulic tensioner, as a new one is easier to install than reusing the old one.

I posted a couple of tips from my TB change that were apparently helpful here: First major service on a VW

Also, make sure you have a bentley manual and read every TB change FAQ and DIY you can find for this motor. vortex has the largest collection of useful info.
