Default Ecu upgrades

I'm looking at apr's ecu upgrade and i was wondering if i need to replace any other parts due to the power gain so i don't break any parts. I have heard of owners who chip their diesel trucks and have to replace the transmission within days due to the increased torque. Does this happen with the VWs?

Technically, you can run the car just as you always have with no additional parts.

It is recommended that you upgrade to an aftermarket diverter valve because the stock one likes to fail with the extra boost. Also, if your car is a manual, your clutch might begin to slip depending on your previous driving habits, mileage, etc. If the car is an auto, then remember to have the fluid and filter changed every 40-60K. It is also recommended that you use a spark plug that is one step colder than stock, like the NKG BKR7E.

That's about it. You'll love it when you get the car chipped.

Why is that the clutch may start to slip?

Due to the increased power and torque, the stock clutch disk and pressure plate need to be "beefier" as these parts were designed to handle 150 HP, not 200 hp that you get out of a software upgrade "chip."
Think of it this way- you are increasing power by 1/3rd EXTRA!
The stock parts will last, but only for a while, especially if you are running a 75K+ mile car. Upgrade it once you begin to see slippage begin. And you should be swapping out old parts that may not hold up under the increased pressures, like cracked/swollen vacuum lines and hoses too.
i've heard that a 4-bar FPR is needed in chipped applications, but I have no direct experience with a software upgrade, so someone else will have to chime in

Thanks you. In résumé you started with a modif of 400$ to finish with a total of close to 1000$

I might go for it...

If you're careful; you could make your stock clutch last.

If you romp on it; you'll wear it out prematurely.

And when you go looking at clutches, please don't bother replacing it w/a stock clutch. If you want to stay w/vw gear though, a G60 flywheel (G60 was a Corrado engine) matches up with a VR6 pressure plate & clutch disk very nicely.

VW clutches a very unpredictable.

My stock '99 1.8T went out at 30K, my stock '02 Turbo S went out at 12K, but my vert's clutch, with much more power and 'romp on it' , was still like new at 40K! I replaced it with a beefier clutch at 36K, but only becuz the tranny went bad , so I had them do it since it was already pulled out for inspection.

4-bar FPR is only required if the chip calls for it. the only chip i know of that requires it is Revo Stage 2 (Stage 1 uses stock 3-bar FPR)

i would highly suggest replacing the DV, as stated before. Forge 007 or splitter valve are both popular choices.

the clutch will die quicker, especially if you have a heavy foot. a good replacement is a stock Vr6 clutch disc and pressure plate, along with a G60 (single mass) flywheel (stock weight or lightweight). that is essentially the clutch kit that all the big retailers offer. a local guy is running a g60 fw and vr clutch disc/pp and has been putting down 300+whp (probably closer to 400whp now) on it for quite some time with no problems whatsoever.

lots of ppl suggest switching plugs to NGK BKR7E or BKR7EIX (iridium), or equivalent, gapped at 0.028" for chipped cars

hope this helps.
