Default Oh no!! Look at the smoke

Was driving home from work today, cruising along at about 70-75 mph when all I could see in my rear view mirror was smoke. I was hoping to see a big hole in the oil pan or filter and oil all over the underside of the car, but no such luck. It was all coming out of the exhaust and there is no oil left in the car. Not a good sign. So to my questions, Where is the best place to look for a replacement engine? Are any of the other engines interchangeable with this engine?

2000 5 speed 1.8L turbo

Thanks,
Billy

Might not need an engine if your turbo seal just went bad. Might just need a replacment turbo, Pop your lower intercooler pipe off and see how much oils in there. good luck

Billy, good luck! I hope it is something less drastic.

Intercooler was full of oil, good call. Guess I will be looking for a new turbo.

Thanks for the nice words.

Maybe now is a good time to go with a K04? TooCold should chime in... he's the one to ask about these things.
Good luck, and hope things go better for you. I had a turbo fail on my 5000 Turbo Quattro and that was fun... NOT!

I have a sim. situ. only my smoke comes from the pipe after cold starts like in the morning berore leaving to work. I usualy let it warm up a bit before taking off. The weird thing is when I have it in N and rev the engine up a bit there is no smoke. It seems to smoke when it's in gear and driving. It clears up after 20 seconds or so and then it's fine until the next morning or after 10hrs. or so. A friend at work said that this could be the valve seals?
