Question oil around oil cap and top seals?

Hi there, went and looked at a AWP TT (40K miles) the other day and noticed the oil cap and top seals looked like there was oil stains/leaks.

My AWP has none of these, is this a sign of a poorly maintained engine? It also started really rough/loud. Any thoughts on this?

Dunno without seeing it with my own eyes but it sounds like sloppy maintenance, maybe the owner had a habit of pouring oil into the engine without the use of a funnel thereby spilling, maybe the owner doesn't know what a rag is and never wipes up the spills...

Thanks man, the seals looked like they were leaking oil... and the fuel pump relay crapped out on the test drive. What a POS.

mine is starting to accumulate some oil around the cap area and the cover. Not much but i always clean it so I notice when things get out of whack. Is there a seal between the oil fill neck or cap that goes bad?? Oil level is fine and its time for an oil change now (3200 miles since last) so it;s minimal but annoying

The oil cap has its own gasket. I've recently changed mine, it was like $3-4 from the dealer. It didn't look too bad, but I figured 10 years was enough for the rubber to break down significantly.
