Red face New Battery now CIL, ABS, Brake lights on w/Beep

I am having trouble with my 02 1.8t sport.
The battery completely died on me. Went to Auto-Zone to buy a new one. Replacement caused the Check engine light, ABS and Brake light to come on on the dashboard. Also the break light blinks incessantly with 3 beeps when I start my Bug. I looked through the forums and called dealer as well for advice. Both produced same results: to replace new Duralast battery with a VW battery to fix problem 116 dollars later I have a new VW battery but the problem persists! Oh, I am also not getting any cool air off of my A/C...
I have replaced fuses on driver's side, checked fuse box atop battery and reset radio. I have the right amount of antifreeze and brake fluid. The car was and is running perfectly well minus these annoying issues. Any suggestions before I have to pay another arm and leg to get these lights reset?
Thanks!

I had the exact same problem. There is a connector that plugs in near the driver's fender on top of the battery cover, at the back of the fuse area (rear most cover) it has three or four wires. It gets caught on the bracket for the cover, and it pulls out of the connector. Check it out. It will be a flat connector about an inch and a half wide, if memory serves me.
Your dealer took you for a ride, they should know damm well what the problem was

It's a joke my friend. I figured that one out in about two seconds after driving the car like that for a day after changing the battery. I'm no VW certified tech! Just a hobbyist. Shame!!

If someone told you that you can only use a factory battery, I would have to say that they are full of that brown stinky stuff.

Go to CES Las Vegas sometime and tell me what you see, VW's, Audi's, Bimmers, Lambo's etc., cars ranging from a sticker price of $25,000 to past $300,000 equipped with non factory batteries with zero problems, I've used an Optima Yellow Top in my car for years with absolutely no issues.

I guess saragv doesn't care to respond back if she is fixed yet or not? I hope she isn't embarassed that she got porked by the dealer, we've all felt the burn once in our lives. I hope she/(he?) comes back!

Default Thanks for response

Thanks for all the replies!
I am waiting for my husband to come home so that he can try out the great suggestion, I really hope that's the problem.
I know the dealer took me for a ride but I just want my car to be Okay. And they sounded so convincing...ahhhh. Anyway, they want to charge me 230.00 JUST to diagnose both the lights and A/C.
I will be checking in more frequently, sorry for not answering earlier, been a little sick lately,

Thumbs up Thanks!!!!

You just saved me 230.00 dollars...
My hubby did what you suggested and you were right. That cable was loose and now all is well.
No lights and now I have cool air from the A/C.
Thanks so much for you help.

No problem! A simple fix... and you can probably return the original battery you bought, right? I hope so. I'd take this up with the service manager if I were you. Refer to our forum, print it out, etc....
