Default Upgraded Brake Rotors (Larger in Size)

Hi everyone,

I'd like to get larger rear brake rotors for Zippy. A friend of mine mentioned buying GTI rear rotors, but I'm not sure that would work. Anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to go up to a 12" rotor if at all possible.

Thanks!
Lisa

Takes you from 9.1" to 10.1" rear rotors.

I've no idea where you'd get a kit for 12" rear.

Thanks for the reply! And it's still cheaper than the big brake upgrade on one of my other cars.

Ron, for shame! ECS sells two 12" rear kits:

http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/...20Stage%201Rv2

They do recommend that you already have front brakes that are 12.3" or larger, though, so you don't screw up your front to rear brake bias.

1. 12" rotors in the back aren't going to give you that much additional stopping power, especially when compared to performing a similar upgrade in the front. That, and the stock brakes are more than adequate for a stock engine setup (and even a decently modded one).

2. Are you chipped yet? if not, you can save $100 and have waaaaay more fun if you get a chip.

I'm under the assumption it's being done for aesthtetics, not performance.

Upgrade your pads if you want to stop better. Stock rotors are more than adequate for street driving.

Lowers price on a rear upgrade that I've seen yet. bumps you from 9.1" to 11"

No engine mods yet, I want to get my brakes upgraded first. It's partially for aesthetics and partially because I plan on modifying my engine. I've had too many friends modify their engines, forget about their brakes and have bad things happen.

I have excellent pads and I don't just do street driving, so I really need to upgrade brakes prior to modifying anything else.

A chip will be the last thing I do.

Thanks everyone!

stock brakes should be able to handle anything a chip throws at it. Better pads and SS lines would likely be a more than adequate upgrade.

Stock size rear brakes are good for most setup's but I would suggest upgrading the rotor and pad quality.

Stock front brakes should definitely be upgraded because they are not at all up to the task of handling even a stock 1.8t Beetle with an aggressive driver behind the wheel let alone a chipped or more heavily modified 1.8t Beetle.
