Does yours have the key slot in the rear emblem to open it manually?

There is no emergency release from inside like sedans with a trunk have. I was able to get mine open when the linkage was disconnected inside the hatch (gabbing instead of paying attention when I reassembled it).

It wasn't easy, but I was able to pull the panel out far enough to reach in and pop the latch. I'm pretty sure I was able to remove the trim screws first, but it's been a while.

Default timing is everything...

With the door switch, you have to (with my '03)race to the trunk lid withing about 3 seconds and grab it before it latches again.
With the key button you have to hold the button for a second before it reacts and then grab it before it latches again. Hope that helps...Dave

A little tip I learned is to open driver door, Press the swich, slam door hard. (make sure windows are up). Next slam teh door (not too hard) and the air pressure should push the hatch open just enough for you to grab it and open it.

Hope this helps!

There is a little "helper" lift on the latch that must be broken on your lid. This was the same on my TS, now that I fixed it (a little JB and a rivit) the lid opens right up all the way when I press the button on the door or the key.
A different problem though arises when and if the release fails. I do not see a manual release under there for the situation that NaplesTurboS is refering to.
Check your latch when the back is open. There should be two black plastic spring operated lifts on either side of the latch that push the lid open and hold it there. If eiter one is busted, the deck will relatch itself in about 3-5 sec...very frusterating indeed.

I've had this trouble for ages and finally got around to fixing it. As far as I can figure it out, there are 2 things that cause trouble - the 'helper' spring that the previous poster talks about and the latch mechanism itself.

The 'helper' spring is the easiest fix - look carefully around where the door-side of the latch goes into the chassis-side receiver. On the chassis-side there should be a pretty strong spring that pushes a black plastic plate up on either side of the metal bolt that the door latches onto when it closes. These hold the door slightly ajar when it has opened so that it won't re-lock after 3-5 seconds. If that's working fine, then try the next step.

In each of the 2 handles that you use for pulling the door closed there is a crosshead screw - undo them both. Starting near the latch gently pull the black trim off from the inside of the door, so that you can get access to the latch mechanism. You can now play to your heart's content with the mechanism - 'close' the latch by pushing on the hook with a screwdriver and 'open' it with your remote control.

When you use your remote control to 'open' the latch, you'll see a plunger move out about an inch, which drives a small cam/arm, which in turn is connected to the latch itself by a thin brass rod with a black plastic end cap. You'll note that the mechanical whirring noise you hear after 3-5 seconds is the latch opening plunger slowly winding back into its housing. As it does so, the cam/arm is spring-loaded and returns about half way to the latched position. You can gently prise the black plastic end cap off the cam/arm and adjust its position by screwing it further onto or off the brass rod. For my car I ended up screwing this end cap a long way onto the brass rod (i.e. shortening the overall length) until whenever you slam the trunk door it no longer latches at all. Then I backed off the end cap one turn at a time and tried slamming the trunk until it just latched closed for the first time. This adjustment + some adjustment of the 'helper' spring had my trunk opening and staying open every time.

Hope that makes sense....? It's really not difficult and only requires a philips screwdriver to have a play with it so I'd recommend you have a go yourself.
