Default Help With Codes

Have a 2000 1.8 been riding around for a year with a p0411 code, and a exhaust leak around the flex pipe, took it to the dealer so i could get it fixed for inspection, well they wanted 800.00 to fix the pipe,i walked out and Went and got a code reader off ebay and shut off the light and then went to inspection,Guess what? It passed, even though the printout read secondary air not ready.I decided to replace the mass airflow sensor, got a new one off ebay, replaced it,drove. The light returned with a 1128 code, engine to lean, the po411 code went away.Went to a muffler shop to get the flex pipe fixed, got soaked there for 350.I replaced the DV Valve with a performance one.I scan the codes again, now i have a 1176 fault behind the cat,and the 1128 went away.Anybody have a clue what this is.Im gonna replace the ox sensor next. The car is running smooth. Its a little rough on cold startup, but once the airpump shuts off its fine.

for the p0411 its a secondary air injection incorrect flow detected
causes .....faulty combo valve, faulty air selenoid, faulty air pump motor or maby a vacuum leak ia m running the same codes... but then i just replaced my timing and couldnt figure out why my car was running so terrable i went to auto zone ran the car and came up with 9 codes all o2 sensor problems and that p0411 code then i found i had a NASTY main vacuum leak coming from the break booster how i found it was carb cleaner. spray it around the vac lines wile the car is running and if your car idles better even tho your car is running good spray that it might run even better if you find a vac leak that might be the cause of your codes comming up ... think of it your running codes that have to do with emmisstions whats the main cause of emmissions problems vac leak or o2 sensor. the cheaper fix is to try the carb cleaner to try to find the leak. if there is no leak then start with the next easiest thing work from easy to heard till you find your problem. now i think im still running codes because my engine light is still on im going to autozone tomorrow to have it shut off to see if the vac leak fixed my 9 problems lets hope it did

BTW, you are using a VAG Com right? Most generic OBDII code readers may not give you the correct answer you are looking for... On the other hand, some OBDII code readers do pull VAG specific codes.

Just my $.02

After talking to a vw mechanic on just answer.com he said he was 95% sure it was a vac leak or a faulty mass air flow sensor.I bought the air flow sensor off ebay new,it was not a original OEM.I returned that for another one, mean while i cleaned up the old one with crc mass airflow cleaner, and put it back in.It has now been about 6 cold starts and about 200 miles and no light.the light usually returns after 3 cold starts,so i have my fingers crossed.I really do recomend Just answer.com,you pay 15.00 and decide if you want to pay for the help you received,if you think they did not help you, then the money stays in your account for the next time,if you think the mechanic helped you then to pay him.The mechanic answered all my questions very quickly.I did not have to wait more then 2 hours before the next reply, some were answered within minutes.Very good site.

You can try 2 things, take it out and spray it with crc mass airflow cleaner, get it at autozone,or advanced auto parts, spray the whole sensor plus where it plugs in on the part, let it dry a few minutes then plug back in,if the light still wont go out buy a code reader off ebay like i did for 50.00 and clear the codes,i waited one day after i cleared the codes and then went to inspection,it passed even though i had secondary air system not ready. This is a new jersey inspection,At that time i had a p0411 code,What code do you have?

Light has to reset,if the computer does not find any faults on 3 consectutive cold starts it will turn off.Usually take about a week.
