What's the name/part for the plastic/fiber cover that screws on underneath the engine? Mine got dinged up by, um, frost heaves.

It's got the following pressed on it:

Germany
PKP
1 J0 825 237 P
>PP-GM22<
3

And here are some pictures... Any help is appreciated!

its a splashguard/skid guard helps keep water and debris from getting up in the engine compartment, the TDIs have a metal plate as do the NBCs

Got it!

Radiator support
Splash shields
Center shield
Coverplate

At least according to 1stvwparts.com. They don't list the part number, though.

Thanks!

Bravo! bugsy98nb, you are the one with the correct answer...

Oh, the scraping of the lower drivetrain cover when going over speed bumps typically happens for one or a combination of reasons:

1. The car has been lowered too much.

2. The car is driven too fast over the speed bumps.

3. You have ridiculously high speed bumps in your town.

Numbers 1 & 2 are the most common reasons.

Dinged up...where?
Now mine got shattered when I hit some piece of steel in East St. Louis.
Happened fast but appeared to be a pinion gear and shaft out of something way bigger than a passenger vehicle.

I now refer to it as "the shattered piece of plastic junk that used to be under my car". I replaced it with a panzer shield. Hopefully won't ever get any use out of it.
