Default Camshaft Sensor Error

I am getting Error Code from a cheap code reader. It tells me Camshaft Sensor pos.-sensor=>Sensor G40 Implausible Signal. This after I did a head gasket and valve job after a timing belt failure. It is not starting correctly,it will turn over without starting and sounds like a few little putts but not backfires. I stop the car from turning over and try it again and it will start.
