Car: 2001 Beetle 1.8T
Default 2001 Red Temp Light/Shakey Reverse

Two things.
Two days ago when starting the car up (cold start, from over night in garage) the temperature light (red) blinked and sounded off for about 3 minutes. This doesn't happen with every start up and not even so much after the car has been running for awhile.

Has anyone had this problem or ideas to what it may be?

Also for a while now, and of course never all the time, the car will be really shakey when shifted into reverse. I'll put the car back in park, wait a few seconds, and then put it back in reverse and it will be fine. I'm at a lost here. The car has 89,000 miles and the transmission was serviced at 62,000.

the red temp light could just be low coolant, give it a check and add some distilled water to it. if the level is good it could be the temp sensor.

as far as being shakey? is the secondary air pump running when you put it into reverse? shakes and noises are really hard to diagnose this way, video would help. other than that i cant be much help on that.
