Default 1.8t engine oil specs

Hi

I live in the Caribbean, and I have a 2002 VW Passat with a 1.8t engine. I'm not the original owner of the car, it has about 45 000 miles.
I'm having some trouble to find the kind of oils listed in the VW updated list before the "oil sludge" problem.
The last oil change made to the car was with an european syntethic formula: Turboplus 10w40 and the big oil filter. Now, I've found two more syntethic oils: Castrol Syntec SAE 10w-30 and Havoline Syntethic 10w-30, but none of them have the VW 502.00 standard listed in the label. Is there any problem to use one of those oils in the next change?

thanks

Alex

Default explanation about the "big oil filter"

OneFiftyThree, the use of the "big filter" is related to the problems VW is having with tome of their engines, specially the 1.8t. The sludge problem in the engine is caused (this is what I've read) by the sludge formation because of oil cooking due to the high temperature that turbo engines produce. Some people say this is an engineering issue of the engine. Anyway, to reduce the risk VW has issue and advice to all the customers and dealers to use only synthetic oil (burns at higher temps.) and use the bigger filter to increase oil circulation inside the engine.
The part number for the big filter is: 068 115 561 B (picture here: http://www.hzyunhai.com/UploadFile/20077710357995.jpg)
The small filter part number is 06A 115 561B (picture: http://www.made-in-china.com/image/2...A115-561B-.jpg)
Try to use original parts from VW.

I hope this could help you.

Thumbs up Look for the EIGHT.

068 115 561 B = BIG
06A 115 561B = small

Thanks, I need that.
