2001 beetle wont start

2001 VW bug wont start! A few weeks ago my bug wouldnt start. Turned the key and i hear 1 click. lights remained on, clock worked, everything on. Took it to AA and the battery is charged. Sometimes i could wiggle the battery wires and it would turn on. My relative checked/snipped a few wires and cleaned the terminals and i thought this cured the problem. 3 weeks later, im back to the car not starting.

check your starter? can you remove it and get it tested ?
I had to replace mine a few weeks back....

How old is your battery? It may have juice but just not enough. These cars are weird like that. The click click usually means a starter though.

Clean terminals to and from the starter are critical for the starter to turn over the engine. Also check the grounds, especially the ground strap from the engine block to the body. You also need to check the lock-out relay for the starter (#53) on any manual tranny car. It's located toward the top of the clutch pedal. Also check terminal #50 on the starter solenoid for voltage ( while starting the engine ) of 8 volts or more. Any less may indicate a faulty solenoid. I prefer to let my VW service department track down any electrical problems on my 99 1.8 turbo. It has always saved me money and time in the long run. They also have all the necessary parts for our cars too. Good Luck, JK

I have had similar issues twice and it was the battery both times; I had the batteries tested at Batteries Plus and both batteries were putting out around 5-8 volts.
