Default how to...fuel pump

I think my fuel pump died. I have ordered the original. I want to change it this weekend.

Does anybody know how to change it and help me?, Any special instructions. Beetle 2000 1.8t

I know it is below the backseat...

Thanks

I really think its a plug & play. Just have a bucket or a pan waiting in the back seat so you don't spill any gas in the car when you pull it out.

Sorry I haven't done the procedure before. I have no idea what you're in for.

I'd probably disconnect & reconnect the fuel filter to release any pressure in that line. But aside from that I don't have any ideas.

I don't have time to go out and take pictures right now (nor do I want to given that its about 2ºF outside), but later tonight when my car is in a heated garage I'd be happy to.

Here are the steps:

1. remove the fuel pump fuse (no. 28)
2. Attempt to start engine, it should die immediately
3. lift back seat and fold back carpet cover
4. unscrew the three screws holding the pump cover
5. mark the position of the pump and transfer marks to new pump, remove lines and connector
6. loosen black outer ring, swap in new pump making sure the sealing surface is clean (you'll have to move the fuel gauge sender from the old pump to the new)
7. connect lines and electrical connector
8. the rest is reverse (remember to reinstall that fuse!)

Good luck,
Matt

Default Fuel pump or fuel relay switch

I have a similar problem with my 1.8 2000 turbo and would like to know if you could help / no crank no start - no fuel pump sound when you open the door or turn the key / no click / no cranking / all the lights and everything else works / main fuses above battery are okay / didnt have a fuse diagram to check the fuses by the door and dont know which relay under the dash is for the fuel pump / how can I tell if its the fuel pump relay switch or the fuel pump / or could it be something entirely different. The car was fine yesterday / battery about 2 months old. Just wouldn't start today - stranded far from home so I need a quick and easy fix. Thanks

I would like to add the you may also want to pick up a new sealing ring. Just in case it is damaged when the pump is removed. If it is not then you should be able to take it back and get a refund.
