Default 2001 Bettle timing belt and water pump replacement

Wondering if anyone has any information regarding the timing belt and water pump replacement in a 2001 Volkswagen Bettle? I looked for a manual regarding these subjects but was unable to find one. I talked to the people at the Volkswagen dealership and they said Volkswagen does not allow the production of service manuals for Volkswagens. I am trying to do the replacements of the water pump and timing belt myself to avoid the ridiciolous cost from the dealership. Anyone information regarding this subject would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Stephen

Search the old forums, Nor put up a thread with pictures. It is very labor intensive and you have to know what you are doing.

By a Bentley manual for a detailed overview of your car.

The VW shop manual is published by Bentley Publications by model and year. Available online from vendors like Amazon.com and ebay.

I did my 2000 1.8 a couple months back, with a lot of very good help. It took us all day and into the night to get it all finished up. You'll want to change the serpentine belt at the same time. I think I can send you an overview from a service manual. The work is straightforward but labor intensive. The most critical part is keeping the crank and cam gears lined up properly. I suppose that if you're considering doing this yourself you probably already know that.

Get the ultimate timing belt kit from ECS tuning at www.ecstuning.com it will come with a water pump with metal impeller.

Good luck, I'll try to help if you have any more specific questions.

its funny that you posted this, I am dropping my 2001 off today for the timing belt/water pump service. The cheapest I found for the job was $750, which was not at a dealership. The dealer would have cost me an extra $100. I was going to do it myself, but after doing the research on it - I neither had the tools or someone to help. It is definitely possible to do it yourself, but given my current situation I can't.
