Default Rear Turbo Upper Wing

I was reading reviews about my 2003 Turbo S and all had the same thing to bitch about. The rear wing.

Tire noise + exhaust + intake + wind noise = I don't hear it going up and down at any speed above 5mph.

My wife's bug is not a Turbo S but a regular Turbo so the wing doesn't go up until past 90MPH. It's rare that we go that fast because tickets are expensive.

Also, I actually try to avoid making the wing go up or down because it makes a horrible sound (that it's not supposed to make) and sometimes gets stuck. I checked it out on day and found the curved pieces of plastic that actually make the wing go up and down are both cracked. Fun.

I love the sound of it actually. People make it out to sound like the sound of a car running straight pipes and no muffler. It's only for a brief few seconds.

Put me in the like column.

My only complaint is with how much my sunroof rattles when it's open. I wish I could figure out how to tighten up whatever is loose!

The functional spoiler is one of the features of the TS that makes it unique. It always gives me a grin when I hear it. I like it.

Just an FYI. The speed the wing goes up has nothing to do with a vehicle being a Turbo S or just a regular old Turbo.

All '99 - '01 1.8t wings go up at 93. All '92+ 1.8t wings go up at 45.

VW changed it, probably because everyone complained that their wings never go up and down because they deployed at such a high speed.

I rarely hear my wing go up, but do hear it go down. It does not bother me.
It is a little reassuring to me when it goes down because well, I know that it is working properly.
Frankly it gives me a weird little thrill when I do hear it go up. I purposefully speed past 40 in some areas to hear it go up. I'm going to get a ticket soon enough.

WHUT! YOU GOT ANOTHER ONE?!?!?!

When did this happen?? Where was I?? PICS?!?!?!?!

Oh, and the spoiler doesn't bother me. But aparantly, mine is broken and i need a "Spoiler Speed Sensor" to fix it.

If i have it up, it goes down (YES DOWN) at 10mph or 92mph if i'm accelerating. When it does, it slides straight down, not down in increments like its supposed to.

I only notice mine going down, and since it goes down at about 12 mph, it can be very quiet in the car and therefore make a noticeable racket. I don't mind it. Part of what makes my TS unique and fun. I often wonder what the person behind me thinks when it closes as we come to a stop at a traffic light.

I have an '00 and all I did was cut a wire located in the trunk lid, and I manually control! I keep mine up 99.9% of the time except when I take it for a car wash. The car looks much nicer with the wing up.

Ha, It's actually pretty amusing when I get to drive with someone that's new to my beetle. I never notice when my wing goes down anymore, but everyone assumes that a bird just flew into me.

Does anyone know if the wing on a 2001 can be changed to deploy at 45mph ?
Thanks in advance
