Default Flashing Blue Coolant Light

This is weird. According to the owners manual, it means there is some error in the cooling system. Usually, a simple restart of the car solves this problem and it doesn't happen again for a week or so.

Well, i assumed that the change of my timing belt and waterpump would solve this, but it didn't. It just came back on today while i was on the highway.

Also, i have that strange problem where about 15 minutes after the blue temp light goes off, it comes back on. I'm thinking its a sensor that wasn't included in the timing belt change....

My guess is the Coolant Temp Sensor, but i'm not sure on this one. I don't want to replace something that doesn't need replacing because my pockets are a little light from this temporary unemployment.

Anyone know?

Coolant temp sensor or coolant level sensor. Both are cheap.

I have found that if the coolant temperature sensor is bad, you will see the flashing blue coolant light. If the coolant level is low in the reservoir, or the coolant level sensor is bad, you will see the flashing red coolant light.

I hope that helps.

Default My 2003 1.8T Beetle also has the cooling sensor faulty

Hi,
My 2003 1.8T Beetle also has the blue faulty cooling sensor.
Only in mine I was also getting the low oil pressure alarm.
At first I thought it was only oil related. Although it'd appear randomly, only when below 1500 RPM's. The dealer suggested that an engine flush may be needed.
Doing additional t-shooting I have found that the low oil pressure alarm only appears whenever the coolant blue alarm is on. Hence, it's got to be electrical related. I want to replace the coolant sensor first and see if that also eliminates the low oil alarm. If it doesn't, then I may think that it will have to be something with the grounding maybe?
I was wondering if anyone else has gone through something similar?

don't count on it being somthing simple. read my post that i titled engine junked?

i was going down the road and my coolant light started flashing then oil pressure light. luckily i didn't drive far but i had coolant hose issues and leaking gasket area's in my engine. oil pressure light is an indicator of engine issues, not coolant.

There's a big difference between the coolant light flashing blue and flashing red.

Charles, did you ever get your car fixed? What did it wind up being?

Funny because Farris is only a tad older than me!

So far Farris, i think it was the Coolant Temp sensor. Today on my way to work/class, it turned off that one time in its usual location, but this time, it did not come back on at all. When it comes back on, it usually leads to the flashing blue. But this time around, nothing. So far so good! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Would you even try having some branded parts like the Centric Brand and the like in your car? It might have some connection with other parts that it goes to act up very well. Go try that one.

Never even heard of that brand. I'll stick to OEM or known VW brands.

Well unless you have $$$ and time to burn assuming it is the simplest/cheapest most common fix first IS a good assumption to make unless something else is indicated.

The CTS is VERY well known to cause a flashing blue temp light and has to be one of the quickest/cheapest fixes on these cars.

Heya guys! Umm.... Yeah, this problem has been fixed for many months now! It was the coolant temp sensor.
