Default Replace AC Compressor

Does anyone have experience in changing an AC Compressor in a NB? I'm wondering how difficult it is to replace one? Also, I read in the chiltons book that the compressor needs to have the existing freon discharged, i'm not sure how to do this. Help!

Thanks,

Edward

Sorry forgot to add in that since i'm going to replace the compressor, i was thinking about installing underdrive pulleys. If I install underdrive pulleys, does anyone know what length serpentine belt is needed?

Thanks

take it to a shop, and have them evacuate the refrigerant from the system before you continue.

And a full set of properly sized underdrive pulleys means you'll use the stock length serpentine belt.
(bigger accessory pulleys, smaller crank pulley.

Ohhh ok.. I thought I might have to change the belt size. Great! Do you know if it's hard to remove the compressor though? I'll bring the car to a shop to get the freon removed in the meantime.

I'm not really sure, sorry. It didn't look TOO difficult, at least it's on the bottom and easy to access.
