Default Turbo related problem I need help!

Good afternoon and Happy Saint Patrick's day!

Ok so here is what is going on with my car. I recently had it chipped with Unitronic, and OMG what a difference!

So the turbo in my car really seems like it working intermittently.
When I first start driving the car the turbo seems to pull well, but after driving for awhile it doesn't seem as though it is engaging after really warming up. It seems as though it really only works when it wants too. I'm at 114k, and I bought it at 91k. I have done all the maintenance, however I have no previous records. TB and WP have been done. The oil has only been full synthetic since I bought it.

I haven't noticed any smoke or anything of the sort.
May I just have a boost leak in a hose? Could the chip be too much for the turbo? HELP!

Any codes? Sounds like there could be an under/overboost situation that is triggering limp mode. I don't know a lot about these engines/turbos...so that is the best I've got right now.

When the power drops, shut down the car and then restart and see if power returns. If so, it is definitely limp mode.

Talk to your tuner and also look into doing some logs with VCDS. MAP requested, MAP actual, MAF requested, MAF actual should tell you a lot about how things are running.

Contact your unitronic guy.

Something may not be working well with your system. Maybe that wasn't an APH program he put on. Your turbo is different from every other 1.8t out there.

DZLBUG hit it on the head though.
FWIW I had the same general issues with Upsolute before. It would eventually go into a soft limp mode. There would be no CEL, but I'd be limited to 5psi.

Another way to check, is to pull off the road. Stop the car shut it down for 10-15 long seconds. Then start up and go see how it performs. You may feel all that power come back. If so, it's the same soft-limp problem I had. "Negative Boost Deviation" was the scourge hounding me. But it was different people and different situation; I hope yours is solved quickly and cleanly.

Ask the tuner what he knows about your motor, the injector size, and the turbo model. And how it compares with other 1.8t's.
