Default Boost isse... plz help me

Okay .. I just got my gauges installed and I found out that after the car is started & the blue coolant light is turned off.. the boost gauge shows up to 15 PSI when I accelerate.. things are fine and car pulls just fine .. however after a few minutes of driving the boost does not go above 5 PSI & the car doesnt pull as good ... so can I have some idea of the cause maybe ?
Car is a 2001 1.8T (Limited Millennium Cup edition 4 Dubai) and is said to be 185HP ..car is totally stock

I will really appreciate your help

Did you have this problem before you installed the gauges? Where did you tie in the boost gauges? sounds like it could be a vacuum problem.

Yes I did .. but I thought I was paranoid and I just get used to the car & think its pulling slower ! but now the gauge gives me more reasons to think something is wrong and that is why I bought the gauge.. the installation was done @ a reputable garage that know wt they are doing so I dont think they did their jobs incorrect

Sounds like an overboost problem which is resulting in limp mode.

Any error codes?

First thing that comes to mind is the waste gate on the turbo. I am pretty sure this is vacuum actuated. Start checking intercooler piping and vacuum lines, looking for any worn, torn or cracked hoses. Sorry not much help. Maybe someone eles will have a few ideas. I really dig your car. Tell us more about it.

5 PSI only is soft limp mode. Scan the car. Something is not happy. Do you have a chip? If not 15PSI will cause the car to protect itself by limiting the boost. You can do a search for "diode mod" either on here or the 1.8T forum on Vwvortex. This will trick your cars engine control module in to only reading 5-6 PSI and will prevent you from going in to limp mode.
