Default oil light and change

I have a 2000 NB and was wondering when low on oil will an oil light come on? Today when starting up my car, I noticed along with the other lights the oil light flash on then go off. I don't know if this has always been the case. I am due for an oil change soon.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Did you check your oil level afterwards?

At a minimum you should check your oil level every third fill up. I check mine every other fill up.

I am always checking my oil. It is showing where is should be. I have synthetic oil in it. I am worrying as it is getting close to an oil change. Thanks for all the replies

well how many miles on the car... many of times low oil light will come on when your turbo is eating oil ...this means your turbo is dying ...have u notice lost in power??? again this is just one of the things it could be ... many things can cause his too. oil leaks on turbo lines, cam journals, clogged screen, or bad oil pressure sennsor

Are you sure this isn't just the normal start-up procedure on the dash? Virtually every car I've ever driven shows all the warning lights momentarily when you first start the car...
