Default Clutch Switch

Hello all,

I've got a question about my clutch switch (the lower/blue one). This is the one that the ECU uses for vacuum purposes and for cruise control...NOT the one that is the starter safety switch. The part number of this is 1J0927189F if anyone is wondering. Anyways...when I bought the car, the check engine light came on for this switch...so I replaced it unsuccessfully which led to the same light. I pulled it out, tested it with a volt/ohm meter, and found that the switch was closed either way. The other symptom was that when the cruise control was on, the revs would rise quickly before the computer realized that the clutch was in. So, I ordered another switch, and paid the extra few bucks for a real VW part. When I got it and tested it, it too was constantly closed. But I put it in anyways, and the same problems persist (no surprise there). Now...without the switch the car drives really strangely, and the cruise control doesn't work.

So on to the real question(s)...
a) Is this actually the correct part for the car?
b) Am I missing something completely obvious in the installation?

Any advice that you have on this at all would be appreciated!

Thank you!
Matt

The code was 17947 or P0704.

Since my last post I've ordered yet another switch in hopes that this one will work...

Thanks,
Matt

You really need to be careful installing those switches. Follow the proper procedures.

I know if you fully depress a brake switch before installing it you wasted your money, as it has a way to calibrate.

Same may hold true for the clutch switch
