Red face The oil light that cried...WOLF!

Last year, the oil light on my 2001, 1.8T Beetle kept going off...all the time. It would go off when the oil level was high and when it was low. It would even go off immediately after an oil change.

There was no rhyme or reason for when it would go off (though it did particularly enjoy hard right turns.)

I began ignoring my oil light. So, when my engine was actually running low on oil, I ignored the alarm and blew my engine. OUCH!

Anyway, I rebuilt the engine, replaced the oil pump and installed a brand new cylinder head.

Guess what...my oil light is still randomly going off just like before my engine replacement.

I don't even know where to begin to start trouble shooting this one...any suggestions?

Is it red or yellow that is going off? Yellow is the level sender which is in the sump IIRC...

Off the top of my head, connector and/or wiring harness perhaps? Did you put in a new sensor? Are you using synthetic oil?

The oil light is red...not sure what that means.

I used to use regular cheap 5w-30, but ever since I changed the engine, I'm trying to baby it as much as possible...full synthetic 5w-30.

I did not put in a new sensor. I'm not really sure where that is.
