Default Timing Belt/ Water Pump...it's time!

It's time for this...I've seen so many horror stories lately. If you've been putting this off and you're over 60k miles, or if your car is over 5 years old, please change all of the below items. If you don't, the consequences are not pretty.

Any testimonials from those of you with broken timing belts, or water pumps, etc.?

Be sure and change all of these to insure that you've covered all the bases:
  • Timing belt
  • Tensioner Roller
  • Tensioner assembly
  • Idler roller (comes on the tensioner assembly)
  • Water pump with metal impeller
  • Accessory drive belt
  • Thermostat
  • 2) 1.5 liter bottles of G12 Coolant
  • Thermostat Housing
  • OEM motor mount bolts (4)
  • Camshaft seal
  • Crankshaft seal

Yep, who has the best deal on getting it all?

ECS and MJM are both $249

I bought mine from ECS. What you see in the first picture of the thread was $219 with free shipping, but I already had a gallon of G12 from a local dealership. I paid $20 for that, but I'll have some left over. You normally mix G12 50-50 with distilled water, so I have two gallons if you look at it that way.

DO IT NOW!

Overheatin' just ain't no fun... trust me.

I got lucky though becuase I played it smart when it happened... no major damage, just a major headache to get towed from the middle of nowhere Iowa 50 miles to my shop at 5 p.m. on a Thursday lol.

Yeah, this week I've put in a new Coolant Fan Switch, Coolant Temp Sensor, and a Thermostat in hopes that it wasn't the water pump.

No luck.

It would happen the day AFTER I drop $500 on APR software.

Isn't there a Beetle specific TB/WP HOWTO out there somewhere?

I remember seeing it before (I think) but can't find it now.
