Default Clutch is going...

I have a 2000 Turbo. The clutch feels like its beginning to go. I changed my clutch in my old 70something beetle, but this looks scary. Is this a novice job, or should I start looking for a mechanic?

I would pony up the bucks and make sure its done right... Too expensive to screw up in my opinion!

it's not hard, just time-consuming.

go to ecs, get a kit, done.

Clutch jobs on the front wheel drive VW's are not terribly difficult, but do take some time and require removing quite a few things to get enough working room. The job is much easier to do on a lift, but can certainly be done on jack stands. I've done them both ways and the jack stand route does require a little more "wrestling" with things.

For replacement options, the OEM clutch setup uses a dual mass flywheel, they are extremely expensive to replace. We have our Stage 1 Kits which convert over to a single mass flywheel that accepts a slightly larger clutch disc. They are a much less ex*****ve alternative to the OEM components, offer more holding power and retain the stock pedal feel.

Kits can be found here on the website:

Change the master and the slave clutch cylinders as well. I've gone through 3 master clutch cylinders and 1 slave cylinder. Replaced the clutch at 20,000 miles because of slippage.... 2nd clutch has 140,000 miles not issues. Replace the master and all is good again. Interesting.
