Unitronic had two options when I did my flash for free upgrades
one was a 93 octane boost tunning or $50 flash for k04 upgrade.

I went with K04 and I just need the injectors to go with the k04... I've been very happy with Unitronic

[QUOTE=eliteboi;659331]We are getting together on the 15th to put together a building sheet.

Hardey actually recommended Autotech, I don't want my clutch to be heavy in traffic. So I don't know if that will be an issue.

I suggest Autotech's 228mm 10LB. steel billet flywheel w/ring gear for the 1.8t and ACT's #VR1-HDSS clutch kit.

I was already planning on going with Tyrol (sp?) SMIC, I really don't want to loose my fogs, but then again i'm taking suggestions from what I gather, and going with that.

You should choose what you like, however, a K04 or larger needs much more cooling recovery abilities than that upgraded SMIC can offer, especially if you are a spirited driver, otherwise heatsoak and power loss is inevitable, an FMIC is the way to go.

With an FMIC you just need to be creative in order to retain fog lights, picture of my car attached.

I know the APH can be a PITA. Unitronic gives you two options when you "flash" your car. Which I have already done. One is high octane tune, or $50 flash to KO4. If not i'll just have him get a program for my car custom done? I'm sure it'll require the bigger injectors (probably tt size) we shall see. I don't wanna get too far into the tranny just yet but a new clutch and short throw are going in with the new turbo.

Contrary to what some believe, the "APH" is not a pain, as with anything just do your research and do not cut corners.

You will not be able to use larger in jectors unless the software is designed to support them.

Good luck on your project...

I've always admired your car! I take it all the FMIC intercooler piping is custom? Which one did you go with?

Thank you.

The metal plumbing comes with the Neuspeed kit and is pretty much a direct fit using some existing plumbing but I upgraded all of the connecting hoses and clamps.

I chose this kit over other brands because at the time, Neuspeed was the only company that was able or willing to answer my technicle questions, it has very low pressure drop (very important) and it is legal on production turbo cars that were originally equipped with an intercooler.

The hoses I upgraded to 4ply silicone from Burns Stainless and the clamps are AWAB racing style rolled shoulder T316 stainless worm drive from McMaster Carr.

I think the absolute best way to go about the APH right now if you have the money is, do a wideband conversion /harness/ecu/02 sensors and get eurodyne maestro.

btw are there any FMIC where we can keep our foglights for our cars?

On the Bug 1.8T you can get the later ones round to 220bhp with a Stage 2, the K04 would give you some gains but the head is slightly different so you'll only really see 245bhp and you'll need to uprate the intercooler also. It starts getting to be a lot to push through the front wheels though, you will find yourself getting through tyres quite quickly.

I have a bit more advice when building your car eliteboi, if you decide to run your car on a dyno at some point, do not put excessive weight on the numbers it yields.

A dyno is just one of many very useful tools but it will not tell you how your car will ultimately perform in the real world, driving the car is the only way to find that out.

The important things are to think "efficiency" and dial everything in from top to bottom (do not over boost your turbo) and make sure that the greatest percentage of whatever power your engine is putting out, reaches the ground productively in every gear.

Do you have anymore info on this wideband conversion? Would you also need the imobilizer an/or the guage cluster?

to the original poster, I'd just call the guys at pagparts and get them to set you up with a full big-turbo upgrade kit. They're really knowledgeable, its where all the guys on vortex are recommending, and you'll get everything you need.

Going big turbo though, you more than likely DEFINATELY wanna go with some big injectors. Gotta keep those cylinders wet when you're pushing more air thru.

Also consider going 50 trim over a GT28 or GT30. They're great turbos, but you can probably get the application you're looking for with good quality and save cash going that way. But I'd trust the dudes at pagparts with Q's like that.

yes pagparts very knowledgeable people. They are the ones that recommended me the wideband ecu conversion and plus they are local to me, ive never met them or visited their shop but from what I hear, its only good things.

their t3/t4 50trim kit is about 2250 usd which is plenty of power for most of us, and with the introduction of maestro this opens up a whole new world to the 1.8T
