Hey all, I'm new to the forums and I have a problem.
My 2001 1.8t Beetle has been performing relatively well with no major issues besides a cylinder head modification for the past 2 years since I've owned it. Just recently I noticed a minor oil leak coming from near the area where the downpipe is located. I rolled under to inspect it and noticed a small concentration of oil around the primary oil line to the turbocharger. The coolant line also had the same concentration but with coolant...what else . Anyway, I proceeded to tighten the lines, make sure the seals were good and ran the car for maybe 15-20 minutes under low and high engine acceleration. No leaks. About 2 weeks later it started leaking again, apparently the lines were only a minor problem. All the lines are intact with no breaks and I'm not sure where the leak could be coming from. At the moment it is leaking about a teaspoon of oil per minute, yeah...bad. I need any advice I can get, after rebuilding the cylinderhead once on the car I don't want to have to do a major rebuild again. Have any suggestions?BTW. Mileage: 74000 Oil Type: Castrol Syntec 5w-30 Any advice is highly appreciated. |

First you need to find the leak. It could be from a number of places. Try this: spread out a bunch of news paper, and park the car over the paper. Run it for a while, at the rate of the leak, shouldn't take long. Mark where the car was parked, then move the car off of the paper. Just look for the oil spot. From your marks, you should see where the oil is dripping from. It has to be up from there.
Did you check the oil cooler/filter for leaks? Look around the oil pressure switch. Is the valve cover good and tight? Is the front of the motor dry? Cam and crank seals OK? You checked the oil return line from the turbo, eh?
