Default Newbie to site - Wifes car has a beeping issue

My wifes car has been beeping like crazy the past couple days. I had it in the shop and it still beeps. The shop changed out some switch that was in one of the doors, the shop was thinking it was causing the beeping. No dice still beeps. I put it back into the shop and they put it on a machine to read for codes. The machine came back saying that the oil pick up tube needs replaced and that the dash cluster was not reading the warning light on the dash(maybe bulbs burned out I guess) Well I had them put a new pick up tube in and replace the oil with synthetic. The shop said the screen was pretty dirty. Got the car back yesterday and now the beeping has gotten even worse then before. This beeping is driving my wife crazy and Im not sure what to do. The shop said that the dash cluster might need to be replaced but thats like $500. I really dont want to just start replacing things by guessing. Sorry about the story but I need some help. Oh yah its a 2000 turbo manual.

Any lights on the cluster? Does it sound like the door chime? Are you able to open the doors via the remote? You can get the dipstick tube from the parts dept. They are 5 minute DIY.

Welcome to the org. Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, but just wanted to say Hi. I am a former Decatur'ite, born and raised. We don't see many people on this site from "home" and wanted to give you the proper welcome. I hope you love your New Beetle turbo as much as we do (after the get the beeping stopped, of course). Good luck!

Can you record the beeps and post a it on youtube? Typically when an NB has uncontrolled beeps they are from the door lock control module, which are in the doors; did they do both doors or just one?.

Keep this in mind, beeping is meant to be an auditory alarm to get your attention that something is amiss. So if it were me I would check things that would generate an audible alarm; like keys left in the ignition, seat belt not buckled, door ajar, hood ajar, trunk ajar as all of these items are part of the anti-theft system. Does your remote have a button that is stuck down?

On a more odd note, I have seen mud-dobber nests short out horns.

The shop only change one of the door modules. I think the driver side. I drove it to work tonight because the wife said it was beeping all the time. I dont mean the horn but from the dash cluster. I drove it around 10 miles and it beep 3 consecutive times (in a row) then stopped. The check engine light is on now but was not when it went into the shop. While they changed the oil pick up tube they changed the 3 of the coils because they said they were misfiring. Not sure where to go from here this is my first beetle experiance.

I'm not sure if yours qualifies, but there is a recall on coil packs; you might want to look into it. Something odd, have you looked under the dash to see if any wires or connectors are loose, broken or frayed? I have read threads where wires for the ignition get exposed do to rubbing.

Well I just had 3 of them changed a couple days ago so I hope they would not be bad yet. No I need to look the car over real well looking for that sort of thing. One thing I did notice today was that the passenger door alarm light was not working when you locked the door. I did not know of that might have something to do with it. I have seen on the forums that the door modules can give you fits.

The door modules do give you fits. I would say that if the door alarm light is not working, then the door module is not working properly.

my car has started beeping lately. it will suddenly start beeping...I figured out that it is the seatbelt. I just reach over to the passenger side and press the seatbelt button, like if I were putting on and then taking off my seatbelt.
I tried it the first time thinking it wouldn't work, or hurt, but it did work. Beeping goes away until the next time it randomly decides to do it.

Question for the OP; is the beeping sound the seat belt chime and not the alarm chime?

From what I can best tell its not the seat belt alarm. It is a high pitched beep with 3 consecutive beeps. I tried the seat belt button when the beeping started with no luck.

I'd go with that's a low oil pressure beep. if the dipstick tube did break and pieces fell inside the pan, i wold definitely drop the oil pan to see if it's clogging the pickup...

are they long beeeeeeep beeeeeeeeep beeps, or more like ding dings?

long beeps = engine trouble

ding dings = stupid door trouble

Nope they are long beeps. I had the shop pull the pan 2 weeks ago and change the oil pickup. They said it was kinda dirty. The dip stick is still in good shape, no missing parts.

OK, back to basics, do the dash warning lights all come on first with the ignition being turned on? If any don´t, make a note of which don´t turn on.

When you get the beeps, check the dash, there should be an accompanying warning light to tell you which system has a problem.

If there is no warning light then it is either seatbelt, lights on, door/trunk open OR you have a dead warning light on the dash - compare with any lights that don´t come on during the self-test.

You can also have her scanned for codes, vagcom would be best to use.

When the car beeps I dont see an indicator light come on. However when I put the car in the shop the first time they said that when they hooked it up to the computer thye said I might have a warning light burned out. They said it was the oil light. That was the reason why I had them change the oil pick up tube because they said it might have sime blockage. After that change still no cure. I dont now if you can just change out a bulb or the entire cluster? Cant really get a straight answer from the shop as to what to do. I hope I can get this fixed soon, the wifes about ready to go postal.

My long beeps were caused by low coolant. I didn't see an indicator light......until.....I took the speedo apart & found black tape covering several lit lights! Then I found out my long beep also had a red temperature light.
After removing the tape, I was completely surprised by the light show when I turned the key. Do all your lights light up for sec & go off?

Should all the light come on for a sec? I see a couple lights that did not come on when I turned the key on, like my oil light for one.

I don't know about your car, but mine will do the same thing, and it needs a little brake fluid. I think the brake dash light comes on, but I don't remember.
