Default Engine light on

Hi All
Today my engine light was on and a secondary pump code was read. The mechanic, said it was no big deal. I had all vacuum and secondary lines replaced as well as secondary air pump in 07. I know it has been three yrs but it seems very soon for them to be worn out again and if they are what would cause this? What are the signs or symptoms of the lines or pump going? Other than the light staying on, my beetle zooms!
Thank Osp

Could be the combi valve on the exhaust manifold or the vac solenoid as those seem to be original, or it could be one of the newer components failed.

First symptom is usually the CEL, if the pump is noisy or leaking you can sometimes hear it.

Thanks Simon
Cel? is that the code? Is the secondary air pump and lines to help clear air pollution?
Cheers

CEL=Check Engine Light.

Do you know what the code was? Might help pinpoint whats up.

No the mechanic didn't tell me that! Just said it had to do with the secondary air pump and it was no big deal...

after a trip from Chicago to Corbin, KY and a mini trip to Knoxville, this weekend, I jumped in to go to church this morning, adn the CEL was on! I drove the Jeep, and thanks to the Org, I knew Advance checked them for free. The guy checked it and asked if I had had any work done on it, I told him I had just had an alternator, battery and belt replaced. He said the reading came up with the weakest reading, saying Ernie had gotten some air. As soon as he checked it, the light went off, and I went happily on my way.
