Question EPC Light

Hello!
I just replace the MAF sensor and had the throttle bottle cleaned about 6 weeks ago for $900 bucks! Today, the car had a hard time "turning over" when I tried to start it. It did start, but then the EPC light came on (didn't flash or beep - just a constant illumuniation). I was able to make it home, didn't run the air, or radio in 90 degree heat (not sure if that would make a difference or not). I did notice that when I made a complete stop, my RPMs were hovering around 1 x 1000, vs. zero. I would like to keep my 2001 Beetle 1.8T (117K miles) until December when I was planning to trade it in. Any ideas as to if I will be able to keep it on the road 'til then? I did have my water pump and timing belt replaced at 90K. I'm willing to put more $$ into it if need be, but don't want to sock another grand towards it if more things are going to begin to fail.
Any advice or similar experience???
Thanks very much!

When you come to a stop, you should be running about 900-1000 rpm, not zero. You'll only be at zero when the car is off. When you come to a stop, the engine is idling, which is the 900ish rpm level.

When I am at a stop, my RPMs drop to just above 0 with or without the clutch depressed. Last night - just to see if I might have the same result as earlier in the day, the car started just fine and the EPC light didn't come on. I'm wondering if I need to swing by Autozone today and have them test the alternator?
Thanks again!

Clutch is not going to effect your RPM unless you are in gear and moving. I would go get your cars computer read first. It does store old codes so see what happened the day before. Then start from there.

I had the same probleminmy 2006 etta and it turned out to be a coil pak recall. It might be wise to check out the coil paks on the beetle as well
