Fan running after shutoff: normal???

Hello all,

I have owned my 2000 GLX Turbo for 2 weeks, so I am not accustomed to its Beetleisms. Today, after driving it a couple times, I shut off the engine, and a fan was still running under the hood for a minute or more. It was a HOT day today. Is this normal cooling procedure? It happened twice and shut off on its own after a bit.

Yes, this happened with all of VW's earlier engines 1998-2002 or so. Newer ones don't do this if I recall correctly.

Mine does it all the time after driving for a good 10 mins+

Yes, it is normal. It is an electric powered fan and will continue to run th help cool the engine. Many other makes of cars do this also.

My 2005 does it, too.
