Well......the repairs are complete just in time for spring. As some of you know, my 2000 project Beetle has been in the shop since August of 2010. "Katrina" as many of you know her, is a flood damaged car that I rescued from Louisiana. She made it thru the Hurricane but sat in 24" of water for 3 weeks. I restored all interior, electrical and many other minor problems since i got her. But unfortunately last year in July she overheated and blew apart. I have to thank Mitch of Euro-Car Specialists for the time and effort he spent in the repairs. Although costly, it has brought Katrina back to life. Again, this is a car that is 11 years old with only 6,000 original miles. I have posted a picture of the receipt for the engine repairs.

Hard to read...what all was done? Complete rebuild I imagine? Did you do any engine upgrades?

Sorry... here is a better one. Mitch put all good stuff back (billet water pump, high compression head gasket, etc...). I had it chipped before the motor went and now with the higher compression its peak boosting to 15psi. Had to take cylinder head to machine shop and get decked. New timing belt setup, plugs, water pump. He charged me $500 labor which I think is pretty fair as his shop rate is $85/hour.

That is cheap for a flood damaged car, you are fortunate. Cowboy is going to cost me more than that.

I should have added that I purchased the car for $1,000 so the investment is worth it to me.

The $2174.33 was just for the motor work I mentioned. The electrical system was basically fried when I got the car from the salt water corrosion, but it took me about 2 weeks to sort that out myself along with the interior. That included all headlights, tail lights, wiring harnesses for them, main fuse box under hood, fan blower motor. I sourced most of the parts from L.K.Q which is a local "you pick it" junkyard.
Fun for me though as I enjoy the process.....not as much as driving though

Ah, I know LQK well. We have 2 near me here in NC. Great place. Seen 3 Beetles there in the past few months.

That really is cheap for a rebuild. We just rebuilt our 1.6TD Mk1 Jetta and it cost more than that...we went full out and did other stuff in the engine bay, but the engine itself cost a decent chunk. Had to get an overbore and get a crack in the head repaired.

You'll basically have a brand new car after this. Which is awesome. Enjoy it

I am right there with you; I am having fun as well and the experience is priceless. Aside from the cylinder head rebuild I am doing all the work myself.

I really wish we had a salvage yard with NBs, but we do not; if we did I would be there frequently.

Well if I have any wiring issues I know who to call...
