webpage (note: jetta shown but very similar to beetle): VWVortex.com - DIY: 1.8T Coilpack and Spark Plug Change.

Video: YouTube - ‪ECS Tuning: 1.8T Coil Pack Ignition (Stage 1-3) DIY‬‏

Tools: helps to have a locking extension or the long spark plug socket sold by ecs tuning:

socket: http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-...ew_All/ES9340/

locking extension: http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....group_ID=20120

Neither of these tools are necessary but they do make it easier; I find that my my spark plug sockets have a rubber boot inside that sticks on the spark plug and the ball style extensions pull off the socket (if you have long needle nose pliers you can sometimes grab the socket but its waaayyyy down there!). You can get locking extensions at most places like sears and harbor freight.

I put ngk iridium ix bkr6eix (stock # 6418) in mine; close to the stock oem style but much cheaper at autozone; they have been fine for me. The dealer was crazy expensive; so I looked elsewhere for mine. Go to your favorite auto parts store and they will tell you what plugs they sell for you car; I believe NGK is the OEM supplier for VW and would be the brand you would get at the dealer. There are quite a few spark plugs out there that would work; just depends on how much you want to spend and what brand you like.

The ones I bought:

NGK Iridium IX: http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/product...x.asp?mode=nml

MJMAutohaus; lists a couple different plugs for the 1.8T; (both NGK, however)

MJM Autohaus

Here is NGK's recommendation: Laser Platinum PFR6Q * 6458

This was awesome, I too noticed considerable differences between my 1.8T NB and the car they were working on. Your pictures gave me the confidence to be able to change my own ignition coil instead of paying the local shop the $100 they quoted to do it for me!
