I have seen roadside, windshield rock chip repair as cheap as $25 and as high as $100.

Check with window instalers who repair chips. Most will bill your insurence and they will pay. It is kind of a perk you get for buying there insurence, like rosd side help.

Most if not all insurance companies will pay to have it filled in. Reason is two fold.

The first is it prevents it from spreading and causing a more expensive windshield from being replaced on their dime.

The second is once you accept the insurance's rock chip repair you basically are signing off on the repair and if later it does spread insurance will not replace it.
