Default Coil Pack Recall

Well, I got this car the other day. I called VW to see if there are any recalls or any recalls have been performed on my TS. The rep at VW was really nice (actually spoke proper English lol)and tells me that there is a recall for my vehicle because they ran a VIN check on it. Sure enough the lady tells me that there is an F3 ignition recall campaign on it. Anyhow, I gotta drive 80 miles to get my ignition coils replaced since there is no VW dealership here. I'm guessing that the ignition coils in my TS have been in there since its production but it runs fine.

How many miles on your TS? I had mine replaced under the recall yesterday. Mine made it to 67K miles. Your problem will be that when one of your coil packs does go, the car will run poorly and suffer a major misfire. I had to have mine towed in for the repair. An 80 mile drive may be cheaper than an 80 mile tow. Of course, you may still have lots of life left in your current coil packs. Best of luck.

Get it done; there have been quite a few revisions of the coils, these last ones made a huge difference on my turbo s! It shouldn't take long for them to do it!

It's best to get it done than to wait until it dies. Mine actually died two years ago and I had to have it towed to the independent shop nearby where it wasn't free since they had no record on the recall. And this past summer the dealer changed all four coils again for free. It should take less than an hour to have the job done.

My TS has 115K on the clock. I will drive it there just to be safe. But I was wondering since its a recall and I get them replaced and if anything goes wrong with those coils they would just keep replacing them for free? lol

As far as I know, I haven't heard of anyone having issues with the new coil packs. You might also consider getting your TB/WP done, 115K is pretty close to the next service. Enjoy your TS

Call your local vw dealer and ask the service dept., if there are any "open" recalls on your car. They will ask for your VIN #.

I just got mine done not even in the shop 10 min and it was done. I notice more power and better gas mileage.

Are you sure they replaced your 4 Coil packs? Or perhaps just your ignition switch? Did they mark down all the items that were replaced? I am surprised that they actually had the coil packs in stock for a 2002 TS. Most of the time they have to order those things. Or did you call ahead and have them order the parts prior to your appointment?

Either way. Congrats on a better running car!

Only the ones that have a recall on them. My 2000 1.8 didn't have a recall. I am still on my original coils.
BTW, there are 4 COP (Coil on Plug) on the 1.8 engine.
