Default 2001 Trunk Latch Issue...

I need to fix my girlfriend's trunk latch which will no longer latch shut. I imagine that there is an internal spring mechanism that either broke or needs to be adjusted (like on most cars). The bolts holding the latch appear to be some of those stupid triple square drive bolts. Can anyone tell me what size?

I have a micrometer to measure it, but I don't think I can get the teeth into the bolt to get a reading. Tape measure seems to have a +/- of 1mm by my eye I am guessing 10mm?

Default Rear hatch latch problem

I have an '01 and occasionally it refuses to relatch (hatch just bounces up when you close it) ... Pulled the cover off the interior of the rear hatch. Apparently the electric latching mechanism had a lid on it that can pop up causing it to lose electrical power. I just pushed the power latch cover (it's a little gray box) back onto the unit and it latches now (when the power comes back to it you can hear the latch reseting ...It makes a "chugging" sound). The problem still happens now and again.. I don't even have to remove the interior plastic hatch cover any more. I just push against the plastic cover from the outside at the location of the electric latch box and I still hear it re-engage and reset. First time you fix it you should pull the hatch interior plastic cover just so you can see what I'm talking about and the location (just remove two screws in the interior "hand slots" and pop the interior plastic cover out and up to remove). Press on the little electric latch box in the center and you'll hear it reset.

Let me know how it works for you
