Default Removing catalytic converter

What are the advantages, disadvantages, etc of completely removing the Catalytic converter. Mine is rattling and I dont have a VW stealership within 200 miles. We don't have emmisions testing here also. I know there is a recall to 80k but can't get to a dealer.

one advantage is increased flow, more ponies. thats about it o and it makes your car a bit louder . the disadvantages are the car really smells, it could toss you into some fueling issues, check engine light will come on unless you do the o2 sensor trick

You mean I could have taken my car in at 78,000 with the rattling cat and gotten it fixed? Good god, and I hit 81,000 today. Oh well.

Jack hit it pretty much on the head...
And the biggest one is the CEL coming on. If you delete the cat, you wont get a few miles if that far before you start tripping catalyst inefficiency codes in the ECU.
If you have a chip on your car, you can ask your chip burner to shut off the CEL for catalyst inefficency.

Ummm....
You would have to take the downpipe off. If you want to totally remove it, you cut it out and weld in a section of pipe, but good luck finding someone to do it for you since its like a 30K dollar fine if the feds bust them doing it..

Or you can soak it in water if you can find something big enough to soak the pipe in. Liquids attack the brick in the cat and cause it to melt down into mud. You basically soak it and wash out all the stuff. You are left with a hollow cat.
