Code P0327 Knock sensor

My 2001 1.8T is stumbing. I got the codes P0327,P0420 & P0300. Autozone said probably the knock sensor would clear all those codes. Question is, where is the knock sensor (picture)? Price and ease of installation for a DIY job?

It could just be loose and not torqued down properly. I have never heard of a knock sensor going bad in a VW but anything is possible.

Also what kind of gas are you putting in your 1.8? I hear of people actually putting in 87 octane fuel and than are wondering why their cars run like crap. The 1.8 needs a minimum of 91 Octance fuel. I never put anything but 93 Octance fuel in my Beetle.
Not sure if your were on a Roadtrip recently and put in some bad gas. You may want to fill up with some quality 93 Octance gas and clear the codes and then see if they return.

Another question. When is the last time you had the timing belt and waterpump service done on the car? Perhaps the timing belt jumped a tooth?? Very important maintenance that a lot of people just seem to overlook or ignore until it is too late.

I had the timing belt done about 45k ago. When they say the knock sensor is on the right side, is that the passenger or drivers side. I run 91 in her 99% of the time but I know my wife filled it up a month ago and put regular in it.

By right side they mean the right side of the vehicle or Passenger side.

Not a good idea to put 87 Octane in a Turbo charged vehicle especially if the knock sensor is questionable. Preignition or detonation is like taking a sledgehammer to the top of the pistons. It can turn your motor into a door stop fairly quickly.
