Default questions about the 1.8 turbo

can anyonehelp me out with some questions i have about my 2000 1.8 150 hp turbo. Stick.

accel. 0-60?

When do i need to change sparkplugs? every 20-30 m?

Do i have to let the engine idle for 20-30 sec after i have driven in it full boost to protect the turbine?

expected lifetime of the clutch?

lifetime of the engine?

timebelt change? 60-100 m?

what´s the cheapest way to boost the engine?

I believe it's about 7.5 sec's stock.

They should be good for about 40,000 miles but if you suspect a problem, don't hesitate to check them.

Even though the engine is equipped with an auxiliary/after run water pump which continues to circulate coolant after the engine has been shut off, it is still wise to let the engine idle for a couple minutes before shutting it down after a hard run or when the oil temps. are high.

Remember, the turbine could be spinning in excess of 100,000RPM and once the engine is turned off, there is no longer in oil being pump to the turbo for bearing lubrication.

expected lifetime of the clutch?
This mostly depends on the driver, clutches have been known to burn up in a week or last over 100,000 miles.

lifetime of the engine?
Like the clutch, this depends largely on the owner/driver along with the quality of service/parts and level of maintenance applied.

timebelt change? 60-100 m?
The manufacturer recommends it be changed at 105,000 miles, I wouldn't go past 70,000 miles before changing it, it's not worth risking the amount of damage and cost that could result if it fails.

what´s the cheapest way to boost the engine?
Don't look for the cheaper way, always look for the right or correct way to modify or upgrade, you're more likely to keep thing running and in one piece.

A quality software chip for the ECU is the best and easiest way to up overall power and performance on this engine, just make sure you don't let anyone sell you one of the over boost chips, with the stock turbo you should not be boosting more than 15psi to 16psi max.
